EN WIAP® MEMV® VSR® · Stress relief of metals by vibration
Stop distortion. Remove residual stresses. Directly on the part.
Do your parts distort during finish machining? With WIAP® MEMV® VSR® you reduce residual stresses through controlled vibration in several directions, directly on the workpiece, in your own workshop.

* compared with stress relief annealing, depending on the part
How it works
A vibration exciter is clamped directly onto the workpiece. The part is excited in a controlled way in several directions, using the multi-directional process developed by WIAP. The residual stresses are relieved, so the part no longer distorts during further machining.
MEMV or stress relief annealing?
| WIAP® MEMV® VSR® | Annealing furnace |
|---|---|
| Treatment directly on the part | Transport to the furnace and back |
| No heating, no cooling | Long heating and cooling times |
| Done in hours | Often days of lead time |
| Low energy demand | High energy consumption |
| No scale, no change in microstructure | Scale, thermal load |
| Report for every treatment | Furnace curve |
Your benefits
- No distortion during finish machining, better dimensional accuracy
- Less rework and scrap
- Weld seam strength is preserved
- Reproducible thanks to fixed process values
- Easy to integrate into the production process
- Also suitable for surface-treated parts
Typical applications

Machine beds and frames · Welded assemblies · Steel structures · Turbine components · Rolls · Shafts · Plates · Vessels · Impellers · Pipes · Parts made of duplex steel and titanium · Aluminium structures
Three ways to MEMV
- Type ES: up to approx. 10 treatments per month
- Type E: approx. 10 to 40 treatments per month
- Type EH: fully automatic, more than 40 treatments per month

For over 40 years, WIAP AG in Switzerland has been building systems for stress relief of metals by vibration.
Frequently asked questions
Does MEMV work on welded structures?
Yes, MEMV is particularly effective on welded steel and aluminium structures.
What part sizes are possible?
From smaller parts of about 5 to 10 kg up to large machine beds, rolls and steel structures of up to 200 tonnes.
How long does a treatment take?
Usually 32 to 45 minutes: about 4 minutes per direction, 4 or 8 directions depending on the system, plus clamping the exciter. In most cases the part is ready the same day.
Can MEMV replace stress relief annealing?
For many applications, yes, as a cost-effective alternative. Straightening stresses and machining stresses can be treated very well. Where a standard or a customer explicitly requires annealing, we clarify this together with you.
